Guaritonia (Grt.) Why Not is a primary orchid hybrid cross of the species Gur. aurantiaca x Bro. sanguinea. An easy-to-grow miniature classic that has been considered one of the best hybrids created from Broughonia sanguinea as they are eager growers and bloomers from an early age. Blooms small, red flowers with a yellow throat and column and will continue to produce more flowers as these orchids continue to mature. Often producing up to a dozen or more per spike lasting months. These plants are clones, which means the bloom will look like sample photo.

  • Blooms life expectancy:  Up to 2 weeks
  • Bloom Size:  1.5"
  • Mature, Blooming Plant in a 4" pot
  • Plant Height:  13-16". including pot

 General orchid care for Cattleyas include a temperature range of 75-85F during the day and 60F at night. 40-60% humidity is recommended. Bright, shaded light south-east or south-west exposure. Check the media and water only when dry (about 1-2 times/week). We recommend fertilizing with a high phosphorus & potassium slow release blend to develop big blooms. As with all orchids, good air movement is essential. Repot these mature size orchids every 2 years.

    I've been ordering from Akatsuka for a while now and have enjoyed every purchased orchid from them. We recently had a major freezing weather conditions in TX. I ordered my orchids prior to the weather news and didn't realize until it was too late. Akatsuka made sure the orchids were well watered and packed securely. There was a two day delayed period. When finally receiving them, I immediately opened the box and my three orchids. All are safe and happy they made it to their new home. One of the orchids may have suffered freezer burn on two of its leaves, however, overall, the orchid will recover. I love my new orchids. So far, they seem to be healthy. I should know within the next few days. I'm positive and hopeful. Thx Akatsuka for my beautiful Why Not. She's stunning.
