Cochleanthes discolor is a specialty species orchid found in central America, Mexico, the West Indies, and South America. These buttery yellow flowers with a large, soft purple lip are known for its unique fragrance, a blend of cedar and the spice of black pepper. These single flower bloomers have the capability to grow relatively large. With proper care, its leaves can reach up to a foot long with flowers around 2" in size. This orchid does not have a pseudobulb therefore it is not able to store water and media must not be allowed to dry out completely. This species thrives under lower light levels and in temperatures between 65F and 70F during the day and between 50-55F in the evening

Cochleanthes discolor
I have been growing orchids for over two years successfully. It is because of Akasuka orchids. Every order I received from them is packaged so no damage can happen to the orchid during shipment. My order for the Cochleanthes discolor is mo exception. The 4" pot was completely full of leaves from several plants. None of the leaves were stressed do to lack of water during shipment. The moss they are planted in was still damp. The newspaper wrapping was covered in blue stains which I am assuming was from being watered with fertilizer. You don't get more professional service than that. Ordering from Hawaii I thought might be a problem but every order from them has been above and beyond all of my expectations. I am a customer for as long as Akasuka Orchids are in business.
