Rlc. Akiko Sato 'Volcano Queen' (Variegated) - 5" Pot - Not Blooming

This highly favored and immensely fragrant orchid, Rlc. Akiko Sato 'Volcano Queen', is now available at a near mature stage with variegated leaves! A rare find in Mori's collection, he decided to try cloning this highly variegated plant to see if it would reproduce the variegation.  First bloom is about 1 year away and most blooms will increase in size as the plant grows.

Note:  This variety is one that goes through a dramatic color maturity.  During the blooming season, you will find that the initial opening of blooms will be a green color.  As the bloom matures with exposure to light, the color with transform to reveal the peach tones in the petals.  See the sample photo for details.

General orchid care for Cattleyas include a temperature range of 75-85F during the day and 60F at night. 40-60% humidity is recommended. Bright, shaded light south-east or south-west exposure. Check the media and water only when dry (about 1-2 times/week). We recommend fertilizing with a high phosphorus & potassium slow release blend to develop big blooms. As with all orchids, good air movement is essential. Repot these mature size orchids every 2 years.
