This multi-colored cattleya orchid, Rlc. Kilauea Sunrise 'Dark Splash', is a stunningly vibrant variety. This healthy plant will be eager to showcase its beautiful flowers during the next blooming season. This particular cattleya registered in August of 2021 originates from our nursery on Hawaii's Orchid Isle. The parental cross for this mericlone is the Rlc. Naoko and Rlc. Dick Smith.
Now mature, this variety will be ready to produce buds/blooms during the next blooming cycle. Flower size and quantity will increase as the plant continues to grow each season. These plants are clones, which means the bloom will look like sample photo.
The clone Rlc. Kilauea Sunrise 'Dark Splash' is at a mature blooming stage. This orchid is planted in a 5 1/2” pot and will produce 3.5-4” cattleya flowers as shown in the product photo while in bloom. Cattleyas are often annual bloomers. This variety tends to produce orchid flowers consistently at varying times every year. This plant is currently in bud or flowering now.
General orchid care for Cattleyas include a temperature range of 75-85F during the day and 60F at night. 40-60% humidity is recommended. Bright, shaded light south-east or south-west exposure. Check the media and water only when dry (about 1-2 times/week). We recommend fertilizing with a high phosphorus & potassium slow release blend to develop big blooms. As with all orchids, good air movement is essential. Repot these mature size orchids every 2 years.
