A stunningly deep blue flower with an even more saturated lip highlighted with a bright yellow throat captures the attention of all who lay eyes on this flower. This particular hybrid originates from our nursery on Hawaii's Orchid Isle. The parental cross for this mericlone is the Rth. Lois McNeil 'Volcano Queen' x Ctt. Blue Boy 'Aiko' AM/JOGA.

This particular clone, Rth. Volcano Blue 'Volcano Queen' is at a mature blooming stage. This orchid is planted in a 5 1/2” pot and will produce 4-5” blooms as shown in the product photo. Cattleyas are often annual bloomers. This variety tends to produce orchid flowers during the summer and fall months. However, it is always possible for it to bloom out of season. This plant is NOT currently in bud or flowering now.

General orchid care for Cattleyas include a temperature range of 75-85F during the day and 60F at night. 40-60% humidity is recommended. Bright, shaded light south-east or south-west exposure. Check the media and water only when dry (about 1-2 times/week). We recommend fertilizing with a high phosphorus & potassium slow release blend to develop big blooms. As with all orchids, good air movement is essential. Repot these mature size orchids every 2 years.

Growing instructions are included with every order. Contact us daily via email or phone for additional care questions or concerns.

As always, Akatsuka Orchid plants are always very healthy with more than decent to excellent roots. Excellent roots produce excellent plants. Which is more than I can say of most of the plants being sold. There is no reason to repot these orchids and in fact they strong recommend you don’t do so until the plant have been accustomed to your environment. They are in bark appropriate to the plant size and type but for all I have purchased is fairly good size bark because I mostly buy cattleyas. Except for the plant growing out of the pot due to the size or sometimes it’s just they have grown over to one side but there is a couple inches on the other side, and I can just lift and move over after they begin to go over the side of the pot, ie just turn it around. Akatsuka’s orchids are very strong growing plants.

A must-have; I can only surmise a great-looking cattleya in this color when it blooms. All the plants I've purchased so far from Akatsuka Gardens are well-established, and well-sized, besides being healthy and well-cared for, as advertised on their website. I have no doubt, I will enjoy them for quite a while.
